Drama League holds awards

No upsets occurred when the Drama League announced its winners at a luncheon in New York today. "History Boys" won best play and "Awake and Sing" best play revival. It's curious to note that the theater aficionados who comprise the voters (that is, they're not critics, just regular theater nuts) didn't mind going a bit commercial in their choice of best musical, picking "Jersey Boys" over "The Color Purple" and "The Drowsy Chaperone," perhaps because so many of them live in the Garden State across the Hudson River. However, they got a bit highbrow choosing best musical revival, preferring the critically acclaimed "Sweeney Todd" over box office blockbuster "Pajama Game." Christine Ebersole won an award for Distinguished Performance for her dual roles in Off-Broadway musical "Grey Gardens." [LATimes]
