One day I will run a trashy tabloid. Until then, this will have to suffice.

The spawn has been born!! And it's a girl named Suri! (Suri. hmm.)

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have welcomed a daughter into their family. According to a statement issued by their publicist, the baby girl weighed 7 lbs 7 oz and was 20 inches in length. They say both mother and daughter are doing well. The name Suri means "princess" in Hebrew or "red rose" in Persian. In late October, barely six months into their romance, an ecstatic Cruise and Holmes revealed that they were expectant parents. Cruise, 43, and Holmes, 27, had made no secret of their desire to start a family together: When asked by PEOPLE last June if they were planning to have children, Holmes smiled and said simply, "Yes." Friends of the Toledo, Ohio-bred Holmes called her perfectly suited to her upcoming role. "She almost seems born for motherhood," said Oliver Hudson, actress Kate Hudson's brother and an old pal who costarred with Holmes in Dawson's Creek. "She's a nurturer. She's got mother qualities a lot of girls her age don't have." As for marriage, Cruise and Holmes plan to tie the knot soon, Cruise said on the German TV program Wetten, dass..? on April 1. "In summer we want to get married. I won't let this woman get away." Immediately ahead for the new dad: the May 5 release of Mission: Impossible 3. Holmes stars in the recently released satirical film about Washington politics, Thank You for Smoking. [People]

Ok, looks like I'm the first one to comment...this child has just been born and already people are calling it the "spawn". This is unbelievable...jealous much! This poor little girl has to endure growing up knowing all the terrible things people have said about it, not to mention the crazy world we live in. People...give this kid a chance, how would you like to be called the "spawn".

I don't think we should judge the poor baby either! I mean come on the poor kid will have to live with Tom Cruise, that is if he doesn't eat her first! I fear for her life!

Does anyone really believe that this baby, as joyous as it is too have a child, does anyone in this world seriously believe that this baby was conceived in the normal fashion??? I mean he was w/ Nicole for ten years, no babies of their own. He's w/ Katie for a minute and a half and she get's knocked up! Timing is a wonderful thing isn't it. Isn't the movie's premier next week w/ the world release in two weeks?? Nice.

Maybe that was because Nicole took measures not to get pregnant and ruin her body. Who knows. Even if he is bi or gay he obviously still has sex with women. All of the high profile women he has dated/married (Rebecca DeMorney, Mimi Rogers, Nicole, Penelope Cruz and Holmes) aren't THAT great of actresses to be in on a mass conspiracy. I give you he is strange but come ON. Actually now maybe we can stop hearing about Tom!

I agree (to someone above) that he is bi but.....I really & truely believe they love each other. I love to read the gossip & look at the pics, but who knows what is really true. For instance, I was really convinced it was a boy....& that made many mag covers.

Today my mum said something interesting as in why has Brooke Shields not been on the news about her new secondborn baby... I realised it was because she did not stand up and make too many attention spans like Tom Cruise did. Which is pathetic the way he goes on. It is definitley weird looking at Tom being so open about his love life with Katie, yet when he was with Nicole everything was private. I wonder if he will expose his daughter to media and whether she will be able to have a private life? Sad indeed.

Never been a TC fan, and I'm STILL not sure who Katie Holmes is, but I wish them all the best with the birth of their daughter.

btw anon 9:38 AM.....if it doesn't mean princess, and you DO speak Hebrew, mind sharing exactly what "Suri" DOES mean.

    thanks in advance..

For those of you who asked (I'm the speaking Hebrew anonymous):

I just checked why on earth they think Suri means princess: Apparently Suri does mean princess but in ancient Hebrew. I've never heard this name, not mention the word itself.

I also read that Suri means pickpocket in Japanese. LOL.

Avshalom Koor, who has for years presented TV and radio spots on the intricacies of Hebrew, said Suri was a derivation of Sarah - the name of Biblical patriarch Abraham's wife -- as pronounced by some Central European Jews.

"Suri is a pet name for Sarah," Koor told Army Radio. "The Ashkenazi (Jews) of Poland and Hungary pronounce it Suri."

I think what is "retarded" is the insane way people make such a big TO DO about everything Tom Cruise does!!

Honestly, he doesn't ask for the stupid questions or controversy. They named their baby an unusual name. So -- move on, people!! (And media).

We named our daughter an unusual name - Sadie - which my husband swears was first created in a comic strip! I honestly have no idea. We just like the name. We would have named her that even if it meant "hoof of goat"!

My name is Jane, and versions of the name "Jane" include Jean, Jeanne, Joan, SINEAD! And masculine versions are John, Jon, IAN -- I mean, really -- who cares what the name means, or how it changed or what it might mean in other languages?!?

It's just another attempt from the media to sell papers and magazines, and it's something for jealous people to sneer at.
