I know I will get in trouble for these, but Britney has lost it

(Feb. 7) -- TMZ has learned that the LA County Department of Chidren and Family Services (DCFS) has contacted the LA County Sheriff's Department, inquiring about Britney driving with her baby on her lap without proper child restraint. TMZ contacted DCFS and an official would not say if the matter was under investigation. [TMZ] Here's the NYPost cover though:

Just because you have a hammer and a saw it doesnt make you a carpenter. So just because you have a uterus it doesnt mean you can be a parent.

I too have a friend that is having a hard time having a baby. This is totally ridiculous. But just let evolution happen- if she wants to put her and her baby's life in danger, might be for the best of the human race, intelligent wise.

Has she been playing with a home lobotomy kit? What kind of mother, other than an unfit one, does this? Celebrity or not, she should realize that neither she nor her son are immune from being injured in a car accident. Remember Princess Diana? If Britney wants to risk her own life, that's her business, but to risk the life of a child is unforgivable.

I just read her "statement" at People.com. What a load of crap!!! You'll notice in the second last photo that the bodyguard had time to put his seatbelt on. If her baby's safety was so important, why didn't she just hand the child over to the bodyguard, who could have bent over to the back seat with the boy and strapped him in? I know it could have been done. I've had to hunch over the backseat many a time to give a soother to a crying baby. Ms. Spears has no excuse, despite the BS her publicists are spinning.

Too many celebs think they are above the law....but maybe someone should show Britney the photographs of little crushed babies that have been puy in this position before by the stupidity of their parent...and how it they lost their ability to cry ever again.

She doesn't realise what could happen. I hope there is an adult around when someone gives this baby a bath....and that they check the water temp.....

tsk tsk....does Britney need a drug test???

    What will granny say?

YES THEY WOULD!!!! If the police caught you in any state in the USA and in England (I dont know the laws of other countries), you would be arrested! It's illegal for a child under 4 to not be in a child seat. ITS THE LAW!!! Apart from the fact that it's highly dangerous. Children under 1yr old AND under 20lbs (they have to meet both criteria) should be placed in a rear facing car seat. There is NO excuse to have your baby in a moving car, on your lap!!! Or out of the car seat what so ever. She really must think she's above the law, and that bad things wont happen to her? Celebrities DO have car crashes (and they do die!) she should not think she's above all that. I'm scared for her baby, if she will do something like that, what else will she do?

I am fully aware of the US/UK law with regard to this. They just wouldn't have their child taken from them, nor will BS.

Explain to me IF she is parked then WHY in the hell is she in a TURN lane! Then has anyone given these pictures to police since what she is doing is illegal! And if the police has seen them then why hasn't she been given at ticket or arrested! If Joe Blow was to do this the police would FULL force be there inforcing the law! But because she is a celeb she won't be touched!

    To MacBigot:

Duh? Did you read her statement or not? She drove away with her baby in her lap, claiming the paparazzi were there and she didn't want to endanger her child. Get a clue.

  • At 2/07/2006 05:44:00 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

I haven't looked to see whether she is parked or not, though from the pics, she didn't look to be. However, this would be dangerous behavior even if she were parked.

I don't let my children of 6 and 9 in the front seat of a car with an air bag even if it is turned off. The air bag can still go off. So for arguements sake, imagine she is parked. A vehicle could still hit her car, and the air bag would still go off, and baby would still be fatally injured.

So whether or not she is parked doesn't matter. Still irresponsible.

    Um, she's PARKED DUH!

As I've just posted on your comments page, you'll see the discrepancy in your theory. Note the 2 photographs taken from the driver side, and notice they have completely different landscape in the background. This would surely indicate she's moved in between photographs.

Also notice the flaw in her story, she was fleeing aggressive paparazzi, whilst smiling and looking calm. Um, not a stressed mother to be honest. Also note, her bodyguard present, so as someone else has said, she could have placed him in the back seat safely. But does she look bovered? Is she bovered? Ask her if she's bovered!

If she were parked, the background in the second and third photo would be the same... and it wouldn't be blurry. The car is clearly moving in the second and third photo. Your "illuminating pictorial" is not so illuminating at all. Also, why would she defend herself by making up the story about the "dangerous" paparazzi? Last time I checked, an innocent person doesn't usually admit to being guilty.

she did not deny in her statement that she was driving. also, in the picture to which you are referring, you can clearly see a turning arrow under the car. she is not in a parking lot but at an intersection.

In New Hampshire, state law dictates that if people are in the back of a truck, the driver is fined $75 per person, per incident...and the truck is towed.

Also in New Hampshire, if a child is not in their safety seat, the fine is $200, and a "Must Appear". I guess the Liberals in California must think this is too harsh of a punishment, because I don't hear of anything happening to Sickening Spears.

I've arrived here from the BBC website too - congratulations.

I travel only 250 miles a week and see this kind of thing ALL THE TIME. Kids unrestrained in the car, youngsters sat on the passengers lap with / without seatbelt over them AND passenger, children in seats with adult seatbelts across their necks.

Britney made an error of judgement and she should be embarassed, ashamed even and be couting her lucky stars nothing worse than a few photo's has come out of this.

What she shouldn't have done was make up a pack of lies to cover her stupidity. I'm sure the paparazzi can be intimidating when they want to be but there are so many holes in her story (she's smiling, seatbelted security guard, no other photo's from the paparazzi hoard) that she's damaged her already struggling reputation.

Yeah I guess you all are right. Any new parent who makes one mistake is definately stupid, disgusting, and trash. Britney should take a lesson from all of you immaculate, perfect parents out there that never made one mistake with your first child.

How about those parents that carry strollers up and down stairs at the mall? Why dont we take a picture of THOSE people and post them all over the Today Show and have millions of people comment on how freakin stupid THEY are? Or any mistake made my mothers everywhere, for that matter. Ever let your kids ride in the back of your truck? Or 2 kids share one seatbelt? Or been talking on your cell phone with a child in the car? Shame on you! Trash! You're disgusting! Horrible parent! You should be arrested and have your children taken away!

Get my point? Shes a CELEBRITY. ANYTHING she does will be put under a microscope and torn to bits. Everyone makes parenting mistakes, and although other's mistakes might not be as dangerous or obvious as Britney's was, I just think its hypocritical for America to nit pick on how she raises her child.

Papparazi have killed celebrities before. Maybe we should try to give her the benefit of the doubt that she was just trying to get to safety, and as soon as she rounded the corner she put her kid in a child seat.

No, I don't do any of those things, and I strap my son into his car seat every single time we get in the car. I'm sorry, but not doing so is not a "mistake," it's being a moron gambling with your child's life. A "mistake" is forgetting to pack enough diapers for your trip. Not this crap.

One of you said that she was "terrified" and escaping the papparazzi - in the first picture she is clearly smiling. And in all the other pics she looks perfectly at ease. That is all just spin - the reality is she is endangering her child. No matter what spin you put on it - even a minor traffic violation, which would be more likely if she was indeed "escaping the photographers", would kill her child. She should put the safety of her child first at ALL times. It is inexcusable behavior and someone from law enforcement needs to visit her and explain the child seat laws and why they are so important to her. If the air bag would have deployed, that child would have been killed instantly. Airbags deploy at 200mph.

Inexcusable. We should all pray for the safety of that child - it doesn't appear his mother is all that interested in his safety.

Nope... I'm a mom of 3 and I dont do any of those things...why? Cause I have at least ONE brain cell. Other do those things, and they are punished by law if they break the law. And anyone who is a good parent and see's someone doing something this stupid would have something to say about it. At the end of the day HER picture is all over the world, NOT Joe Blog's so it's HER picture, HER baby and HER life we are commenting on. We only know about child abuse cases when they are highlighted in the media, it's not something new. Everything these people are saying is nothing but the truth, she broke the law and endangered her child. PERIOD.

At first glance it looks like she is smiling in the first picture, but if you take a closer look then it is much more likely that it is just some grime on the window.

PARAPHRASE "take her baby take her baby. One rule for them, another for the rest of us "PARAPHRASE

Good grief everyone - get a freaki' grip.

Can anyone come up with evidence that, on such an offense alone, ANYONE has had their child taken away from them? I'll await the rush of responses in anticipation.

Oh no it's the end of the world. Somebody who is young and beautiful and has got loads of money is doing something silly so I had better comment on it to prove how much better than them I am and of course I'm not in the slightest bit jealous that she's young and beautiful and got loads of money. Come on people get real. You hate her because you're jealous and it wouldn't matter what she did you'd find some way of criticizing her for it. If it makes you feel better about yourselves carry on but from what I've read on this blog most of your messages say a lot more about you than about Britney.

Those of you who think it's not dangerous or ignorant to drive with a baby on your lap, or otherwise not in a safety seat, rank right up there with the lack of brains and rather large helping of ignorance that B.S. has shown by doing it to her child.

I just wanted to point out one main thing. So, she didn't want the paparazzi to take pictures of her child and that was why she was being stupid, right? Well, did she not want them taking pictures so that she could sell some more on her own? Remember, she SOLD pictures of herself, that thing she calls a husband, and the poor child to PEOPLE, so why does she have such a problem all of a sudden with someone else taking and selling pics of the kid? Apparently, she is just greedy, stupid, AND immature...not that innocent is definitely right...not that bright, either.

my only comment is this : why take the child into a situation where you just know there's gonna be papparazzi ... you are a celeb - its part of everyday life ... you should just have someone else drive and concentrate on said child and safety!!!! to all those defending Madam Spears ... you obviously have no children of your own or you would see the moronic behaviour for what it was!

    I'm leaving my identity anonymous.
I'm an actor... have been so for over 12 years now. I've been hounded by the press.. crazed fans... the works. My wife and I have a 3 month old daughter. Press or not... I would never put my child's life at risk with some stupid bullshit like this. If my child isnt in her carseat... my car doesnt move... no if, ands, or buts. I dont give a damn who you are... celeb or not... there is NO excuse. If you cant take better care of your child... he needs to be taken away. Maybe that'll teach you. And for those of you saying the cops wont do shit to a celeb... thats bullshit. I've
    been stoped and ticketed.
They didnt care... I broke the law... and I paid the price.
The only reason they didnt get her in this particular incident, is because they weren't there to witness it. If they were... they'd bust her ass. Anyway... just wanted to throw in my 2 cents worth. Take care guys... Later.

now she is defending her actions claiming that she was scaping from a paparazzi - BS!!! she is smiling in the pictures, and driving normal, not distress or altered by anything that could harm her child except her - why DCFS (Department of Children and Family Services) is not on her case as they are on any other women's case when a child is in danger? Are celebreties exempt from the law? She needs serious counseling and parenting classes mandated by the court.

This whole thing is absurb and shows you what kind of liberties celebrities think they have just because of their recognition/wealth. Besides putting her child in danger, she's painted herself into a corner with a statement that doesn't match up to the visual evidence.

whatever her excuses for such moronic behaviour there is no denying the safety risk ... whoever you are, rich or poor ... a childs life is precious and you do not endanger that life as she did for any reason. you don't want your child photographed then don't take him/her out where you just know the media are gonna be right?

Her defense that she instinctively drove off holding her baby is feeeeeble. Instinctively you do what needs done regardless of the bad press you might recieve to keep your baby safe. Photos don't kill babies. Accidents kill babies.
Accidents are more likely when you are holding a baby and driving an SUV.

Britney has lost her mind. Only a sad excuse for a mom would not put her baby in a carseat (especially if they need to "flee" a scene and may have to drive unsafely).

To those who think reading and commenting on this are losers or what not. Sorry we are not the losers.

I have a baby boy the same age as Britneys baby and I would NEVER do anything like this to harm his safety. In fact I have never for any of my children done anything that could cause them to lose their lives due to my stupid actions.

I am appauled that she would put her child's life in danger. Give the photographers a picture. It's not worth your child's life. She deals with these crazy photographers every day. I know it has to be overwhelming at times, but come on....

I don't know what to think about it all... I don't think she is a bitch or anything. I know people who have put their kids in worse danger.. and I think the photos should leave her alone for a minute while she has her kid. I mean damnit to hell.. that has to be annoying. But still I'm not supporting her. But I'm not degrading her.

  • At 2/07/2006 07:43:00 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

I love how she says she was "fleeing from danger" and she would "do anything to protect" her baby. Is she f*cking kidding me?????? How is DRIVING like THAT safer than locking your doors, hiding the baby's face from the paparazzi and waiting for the bodyguard to come back so you can reach back and put the kid back in his seat?!?! She truly is trash!

there is no excuse for what she did she is trying to convince people that its more safe to drive your car with your 16 month old in your arms then to have paparatzzi take a Picture

britneys mom needs to rescue her from her mistack of becoming a mother just like she did when she married Jason Alexander

whats next is she going to do next hang a puppy out a window by its tail so it wont throw up on her carpet

someone needs to stop her now !!!!

nice try Brooke, but no matter how you try and color it the child should have been in his car seat. You say she was trying to protect him? How was she planning on protecting him from the air bag deploying or the vehicle being hit from behind???

  • At 2/08/2006 08:41:00 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

We all know there is two sides to every story. Clearly there is a lack of brains on Britneys part... she made a huge mistake and im sure she realizes it in the back of her mind. I find it insulting that she cant be honest and state that what she did was poor judgement. Point blank...I think the girl is a half wit...and because of her fame she is a bullseye for anything she does. Take pointers from Oprah...Admit your wrong doing! Britney should seek counseling for her CHAOTIC mind set.

If before this had all happened someone had posed the ? "Name the celebrity mom most likely to drive her vehicle with her child on her lap." Who would you pick?

    A. Jennifer Garner
    B. Reese Witherspoon
    C. Anjelina Jolie
    D Britany Spears

  • At 2/08/2006 09:11:00 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

Angelina Jolie...Because she will most likely be in a third world country where driving with your child on your lap does not matter to anyone at all...

Come on people!! We have to give this poor girl a break and have SOME sympathy for her! No matter how much fame and fortune she has, fact of the matter is, she is MARRIED TO KEVIN FEDERLINE!! If that is not reason alone to have sympathy for Ms. Spears, I don't know what is!

  • At 2/08/2006 10:06:00 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

Brit...she is the victim here. Maybe we can re-inact the scene of Brit driving, instead this time I can hold baby Sean out of the passenger window and sing "PopoZao" while Brit drives barefoot with a cigerette hanging out of the corner of her mouth and waves at the oncoming traffic like she is in a beauty pageant. "Hey Ya'll...ya just dunno my southern grizzle!" Oh Brit...its fun to imagine the life you could of had if you did not make it big. Gotta love Brit and her class Ya'll!

  • At 2/08/2006 10:21:00 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

Leave Brittney alone! She was trying to drive and cover baby Seans ears at the same time. She did not want him to become ill from listening to her hubby's new song, "Papozao"! Poor...Poor...Poor baby Sean! Hopefully Angelina and Brad will adopt you soon!

Hey, observant people. Go look real real closely at that picture.

Do you notice the distinct lack of a passenger door?

Spears is trailer trash, no doubt about that. But that pic has been through the tabloid cut-and-paste center.

Britney lies..we post the pics.X17 spacebetween your head. They have every right to post evidence as you have no claim over public domain and your lawyers can go jump on a bar exam. Most likely the downtown bar more than likely as these pics offer so much evidence of lack of care for her baby.Sort of like Michael Jackson hanging his kid off a balcony Britney might have wrecked crushing her child between her and the steering wheel. If anything she not only endangered her baby but endangered the public. She might have easily had an accident because of the baby. She wanted to be a mom but still lacks the adult thinking it takes to ensure safety for her child.Kind of like a child raising a child.Just goes to show that because you have fame and money , it wont buy you brains.
