Dr. Phil is going primetime, landing a six-episode order from CBS for the unscripted skeinskein "Moochers."
"Moochers" will help people rid their lives of deadbeat relatives and friends who've overstayed their welcome (two words: Kato Kaelin).
Producers will help remove the offending parties and then help them stand on their own two feet by getting them jobs and setting them up with apartments.
Phil McGraw and his son, Jay McGraw, are exec producing via their Stage 29 Prods. banner. It's the first primetime series commitment for the company.
In addition to physically removing slackers from places they're no longer wanted, "Moochers" will also work with those who've been mooched, to show them how they might have turned into enablers. And in order to prevent moochers from returning, the show will pay to have the moochers' rooms remodeled, so that there's less incentive to come back.
Dr. Phil will not host the WMAWMA-packaged show, but he will appear on camera when appropriate, an exec familiar with the production said. [
