Last year it was Lollapalooza, this year it's the hippie-oriented Zooma Tour that's been axed due to poor response.
As previously reported, Ben Harper and former Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio were set to headline the six-week tour kicking off on June 13. Touted as a band jam festival, it also boasted performances by The Black Keys, Galactic, Gomez and Jurassic 5.
Zooma producer Jonathan Mayers told Billboard.com poor ticket sales are to blame for the cancellation. He said Zooma's organizers had planned to present the tour as "a full entertainment experience," which they couldn't deliver because of lagging sales. Still, Mayers defended his festival, saying the sales weren't totally abominable. "But it was definitely far below everyone's expectations, as tour producers, management and the promoters, which was kind of surprising," he said.
The tour was created as an attempt to take a miniature version of Tennessee's Bonnaroo Festival on the road. Since its inaugural run three years ago, Bonnaroo has been the top-grossing festival in the U.S.
